Free Breakfast for Cyclists: BYO Cup!

It’s the event worth getting out of bed (and onto your bike) for… the Bike Breakfast is back next Monday 23 March from 8am – 10am at the Beatrice Tinsley Bike Park! This year your reward for biking to UC is coming in the form of vegan danishes, banana smoothies and fair trade coffee… and it’s all for FREE! All you need to do is ride to UC, park up your bike in the snazzy new bike stands (or, show us your helmet if you parked up elsewhere) and we’ll reward you with breakfast on us.

Please note: There will be no single use cups at this event and the Cup Library won’t be available so please bring along your own coffee cup. UC is following advice from WHO and Ministry of Health regarding all upcoming events, read more>

What else can you expect?

On the spot bike repairs thanks to Dr Bike, cycling chat and information about the city cycleways thanks to the wonderful Anne from the Christchurch City Council, and more cycling banter than you’ve ever seen before…

Did we mention there’s FREE breakfast on the line?!

Your campus has a community garden!

New to campus, or been here a couple of years? Either way, you may not have realised that UC has a beautiful community garden, right here on campus!

Waiutuutu Community Garden is your garden too. It’s not only a productive vege garden and orchard, it also provides a relaxing spot to take a break, eat your lunch, or catch up with friends – all right in the middle of campus.

Feel like getting your hands dirty? Want to learn more about organic gardening? Keen to meet some like-minded people? Come and join one of our weekly working bees! Spend time in the garden with us and take home some fresh organic veges for dinner.

When: Every Friday afternoon, 1.00pm – 5.00pm (summer months) and 12.00pm – 4.00pm (winter months).

Where: Waiutuutu Community Garden, off Engineering Road. See the map below, or check out our website for some more info about volunteering with us.

Or, why not come along to our Community Garden Open Day next week?

Drop in on Friday 28 February from 12pm – 1.30pm for garden tours, workshops, seedling planting and homemade wood fired pizza. There is the option to stay on and join the regular working bee afterwards, so come along and say hi!

See the Facebook event here for more information.

Any questions? Check out the Sustainability Office webpage, UC Community Gardens Facebook page or email Niki Jones, Community Gardens Co-ordinator.
