No access between UCSA building and Avon River

Please note that there is no public access to the area between the north side of the UCSA building and the Avon River. Temporary safety fencing has been installed until the remaining hoardings go up around the building in preparation for demolition. Please stay away from the area.

What’s happening with the UCSA building?
The existing UCSA building will be demolished and replaced with a new facility on the same site, which is expected to open in 2018.

The new building will feature social, hospitality, meeting, club/society, office and event spaces, as well as an outdoor amphitheatre by the river. The Ngaio Marsh performance theatre will open once again in the new UCSA building as will popular student spots The Foundry and Bentleys.

We caught the transformation of an unexciting white fence into a colourful work of art that reflects what we’re all about here at the University of Canterbury: Whāia te mātauranga, meaning pursue knowledge. This is just one of many transformation initiatives occurring on our beautiful Christchurch campus in 2015.
