Japanese lecturer received a Certificate of Ambassador’s Commendation

Dr Masayoshi Ogino has been awarded a Certificate of Ambassador’s Commendation from HE Mr Toshihisa Takata, Ambassador of Japan to New Zealand in recognition of his distinguished service in contributing to the deepening of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and New Zealand. 

With a full support of the Japanese programme, Masayoshi has organised a number of successful projects and events that involve Japanese language learners and teachers locally, nationally and internationally.

They include the NCEA Japanese workshop at UC in which over 1,300 secondary school students and UC students participated since its start in 2013.  It is unique in that it is secondary and tertiary learners of Japanese collaborate and interact, and one of the largest of its kind, and thus has been attracting an interest internationally.

In addition, he is the organiser of the Japanese dance video project in which secondary and tertiary Japanese learners have participated since 2014.  It is one of the videos ranked first in the music category of Yahoo Japan Video Topics, with over 90,000 views around the world, which contributed to raising the visibility of Japanese language education in Christchurch and New Zealand to the viewers in Japan and around the world.

Dr Ogino was the recipient of the College of Arts Excellence in Teaching award in 2017.
