Full house at International Welcome

Rose Reynolds from the Student Experience team provides us with an update on the successful International Welcome at UC…

We had a full house, 400 students attended. Students were formally welcomed by our Chancellor Dr John Wood who encouraged them to explore our exciting new city and to make the most of their time at UC. Levi Collier-Robinson and Hamuera Kahi provided a mihi whakatau and te reo session to introduce our new students to Māori language and culture.

The new students were treated to entertaining and informative sessions by NZ Police and the Student Care Team. After grabbing a delicious vegan noodle box for lunch attendees had the opportunity to speak to key support staff from Library, Careers Internships & Employment, Student Care, Mentoring and UCSA.

For the really adventurous types UC Student Leaders led games of Cornhole, Cubb and Giant Jenga on the lawn – after applying lots of suncream of course!

In the afternoon 120 attendees stayed on for optional campus tour followed by a bus trip to the city for dinner at Little High Eatery and a scenic ride through the city taking in the views from the port hills. Two of our UniLife leaders did a fantastic job MC’ing the event providing fun games to keep the audience engaged between sessions.
