Advice for staff regarding personal travel | COVID-19

We are urging all staff to carefully consider all overseas personal travel at this point in time. The university of course can’t and won’t dictate where people go on personal leave, however it is important that staff understand implications that might be associated with a decision to travel abroad right now. These implications might range from imposed travel restrictions, insurance issues, to a need to self-isolate for 14 days upon return (and therefore cannot return to work).

Here are a few tips that may be helpful in your decision making:

  • If you are travelling, note that insurance at the moment can be problematic with COVID-19, so pay attention to the fine print and keep an eye out for any updates or changes to your insurance coverage
  • Check https://www.safetravel.govt.nz/to help you make good travel choices
  • Be aware of the possibility of travel restrictions that could impact your ability to return to work (eg Iran).  Refer to Immigration New Zealand

In addition, it is always useful to share your travel plans with your manager so they are aware and can provide assistance if any help is required.
