When you are in a group Zoom meeting, it is good practice to leave your microphone muted, so that others don’t hear any ambient noises at your end, such as a cough, dog barking, kids playing, etc.
If you then need to speak for a while, press Alt+A to switch your microphone to an un-muted state. (Then when you’re finished talking, press Alt+A again to return your microphone to a muted state.)
Alternatively, if you are spending most of the meeting listening, with only occasional brief input, hold down the space bar on your keyboard to temporarily unmute your microphone. When you finish speaking, let it go.
