State of emergency declared in Christchurch

Staff will be aware that a state of emergency has been declared in Christchurch due to Cyclone Gita, which is expected to pass over the city overnight and tomorrow.

Based on the information we have at the moment, the University campus will be able to open tomorrow, but we will monitor the situation overnight and confirm that at about 7am tomorrow morning.

If the campus is closed, we will send an all staff email and post a message on the UC Facebook page and Twitter. These can be accessed by searching Facebook for University of Canterbury, or Googling @UCNZ. Unless you hear otherwise, please assume that campus is open as normal.

If staff find their personal circumstances prevent their attendance on campus, they should communicate this to their line manager at the earliest opportunity to discuss impact on students, working remotely or other arrangements.

If the campus is closed, UC’s position is that staff would still be paid – with the expectation they work remotely if that is possible and reasonable and reschedule activities wherever practical.

Website search issues

Over the past few months the website search has not been performing to an acceptable level.

Both the web team and IT have been working closely with the third party search provider to remedy this and a lot of improvements have been made to date. However, if you continue to experience search related issues please submit them via the form located here: http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/web/search/

How you can help
Your submissions will help both the web team and IT to continue to map the issue as we liaise with the search provider. Each submission will be reviewed individually and fixed where possible.

Both teams will continue to work very closely with the third party provider to keep enhancing the search functionality to provide you with a better experience.
