Using a teaching space? Consider your colleagues after you

With controls for sound, visuals and lighting at our fingertips during teaching activities, remember when finishing up, to reset the system.

It’s quick and simple. Create a habit, to do so, as soon as you finish.

Reset by firmly pressing the power off button on the AMX Touch Panel.

This quickly restarts it, with sound, visual and lighting settings at their expected default levels.

Not resetting impacts the next users – your colleagues.

If your colleagues have lecture capture programmed, they want to know that the microphones are actually picking up sound.

The visuals recorded are of little use without sound, when someone else has muted a microphone.

There is also no audio recording magically taking place either, without the Echo360 hardware installed… and a request, booking and the confirmation of lecture capture, in advance.

So, think of your colleagues: Reset your tech and put your microphone back correctly.

Put your microphone on charge at the end of teaching

Be sure to put your microphone back on charge.

Carefully calibrated technologies are in place in lecture spaces, to make sure the audio experience of students is consistent – including the Wireless Lapel Microphone system.

Being wireless, it has its own portable power source – in its bodypack.

When the bodypack is taken out of the charging dock, it automatically switches on and starts picking up audio. The green light on the bodypack comes on.

Likewise, when put back correctly, it switches off automatically and starts recharging.

Given the near all-day use of many teaching spaces, it is crucial that this gets every opportunity to have a bit more charge put in.

When a previous user has not replaced the bodypack correctly in the charging dock, it stays on and is not recharging. Double trouble. That impacts teaching staff later that day, and even the next day.

Place the bodypack, the right way round, in the charging dock. This means the screen on the bodypack faces the lights on the charger dock.

Simply put:

  • Click,
  • Check,
  • Loop, and
  • Clip

Here is a very quick video to show you.

Remember, Echo360 recording only takes place if it has been requested, booked in and confirmed in advance. There is no audio recording to access later, if this has not been done.

Wrapping up a teaching activity? Reset the teaching technology

When teaching staff set up for a teaching activity, they expect the teaching technology to be ready to go with its default settings. So, at the end of any teaching session, it is crucial to reset the audio and visual presentation system for the next member of staff.

For example, this will reduce the number of unsuccessful Echo360 recordings caused by muted microphones.

This is quick and easy to do on the AMX touch panel.

To reset the technology, do the following:

1. Touch the ‘Power Off’ button

2. If you wish to hurry the process along, touch the ‘Power Off Now’ button. Or let the countdown to finish.

3. Once reset, the middle of the touch panel will look like this:

Remember, Echo360 recording only takes place if it has been requested, booked in and confirmed, in advance. There is no audio recording to access later, if this has not been done.
