Use Your Smartphone As A Mirror

We have talked about using your smartphone as a scanner to scan receipts and other records.

We have also talked about using your smartphone as a magnifying glass.

So what if you need a mirror?  Easy: pull out your smartphone, activate the camera and reverse the view to “selfie mode”. You are now looking at one of your favourite people! Or more specifically, at that something stuck in your eye, or that hair out of place, or that smudged lipstick, or those bread crumbs in your teeth….

Looking for IT Information?

If you are looking for IT information, the Technology Information for Staff web site is for you. It covers everything from passwords to training, remote access to electronic filing, SPAM to traveling with your mobile devices, Skype for Business to ergonomics, and more.

This is a central location for information about the technology staff use regularly at UC.

The Technology Information for Staff web site also serves as an IT Induction for new staff, so please direct new staff members to it (it is also on the New Staff Orientation Checklist). If you are a new staff member you can work through it, starting on your first day and continuing from there.

You should find this website useful at any time. It is self-service, but you may need to ask a colleague to assist you from time to time. Managers /Heads may wish to nominate such a person, and should ensure that any new staff members know who to talk to when the content directs them to check with ‘a colleague’.

If you can’t find something or have a suggestion for the Technology Information for Staff website, please email Learning and Development.

Getting the most from your mobile devices

Drop-in discovery clinic:
Getting the most out of the mobile devices you bring to work.

All staff welcome
Anytime between 9-11am
Tuesday 7 November
Poutama training room – Level 3 Puaka-James Hight, Room 388

Do you understand the mobile devices you bring to work? Your mobile phone? Your tablet/iPad?  Do you have ideas, knowledge or expertise – for example with particular device types (eg Android, iOS) – that you could share with others?

Drop in to our mobile devices discovery clinic and discover what your devices can do. Bring your phone, iPad, etc – or try ours. Ask some one-on-one questions of our experts and learn how to find answers.

Background
We are exploring the concept of staff using their own mobile devices for work mobility and productivity – known as “BYOD” or “Bring Your Own Device”, this is an operational objective for 2017-2019.

We are running a drop-in discovery clinic, to which staff can bring their own mobile devices and explore other models, with experts on hand to answer questions and explain features.

Overall we intend this drop-in discovery clinic to:
– foster constructive discussion on the use of personally owned devices for work
– help us begin to understand barriers or concerns

The drop-in discovery clinic will enable:
• Chatting with experts
• Exposing you to options with the technology
• Allowing hands-on playing with a range of devices
• Exploring possibilities
• Capturing insights and tips
