On 10 November 2019 LEARN was upgraded, changing the way it looks and where you find things.
There are a number of resources in the e-Learning Help for staff page on those changes, but for those wishing to have a demonstration and discussion in person, we are running three brief sessions in the lead up to the start of Semester 1.
The details of these sessions are as below, no sign up is required.
- Mon 10 Feb, 10am in Poutama, Level 3, Central Library
- Tue 11 Feb, 2pm in Poutama, Level 3, Central Library
- Wed 12 Feb, 11am in Poutama, Level 3, Central Library
As part of UC’s strategic focus on professional development in teaching, Academic Development, E-Learning Support and the Student Support units will be starting a series of short (90 minute) workshops from February aimed at teaching staff.
These workshops will cover commonly encountered teaching issues and dovetail with existing professional development offerings through HR Learning & Development. Topics include, among others, engaging students in class, authentic assessment, online design and content development and writing learning outcomes.
An initial list of the new workshops can be found here, and you can register your interest for a workshop date and time. More workshops on different topics will be added over the course of 2020.
For queries, contact Erik Brogt (Academic Development) or Nick Ford (E-Learning Support)
At the end of 2017, Echo360 was upgraded to a new cloud-based system. All historical course recordings were transferred, and 2018 lecture capture requests are scheduled into the new system.
The old Echo360 system will be decommissioned at the end of March. Before this happens, it is important that teaching staff:
- Check that all requested historical course recordings have successfully transferred.
- Update old Echolinks to individual recordings, with links to those recordings now in the new system.
Instructions on updating EchoLinks can be found at Echo360 Help: Managing Recordings
Echo360 can be accessed from the Course Recordings block on LEARN course pages. If any historical lecture recordings are missing or not working correctly, a working copy can usually be transferred from the old system. This needs to be done before the old system is decommissioned.

Before Semester 1, interactive sessions are now available in mid-February. For more information and registration, go to http://canterbury.libcal.com/calendar/tst/
Any questions, or training requests, can be sent to e-Learning Support via Assyst Self Service.
Currently there are 24,000 file resources on Learn which have been hidden (unavailable to students) for three years or more.
These files were uploaded before the copyright compliance tool was completed and hence hold a considerable but unknown risk of non-compliance with current copyright law and licenses, as they can be unhidden, which makes them reportable and available to students in Learn courses.
Therefore all hidden files that have not been accessed for three years or more will be deleted. The deletion of these files will commence on the week of 25 July. If you do want to keep your files, please ‘unhide’ them so they will not get marked for deletion.
If you have any questions please contact E-Learning Support.
The e-Learning Support team invites staff to our e-Learning workshop series that are taking place from the 19th January to the 25th of February.
We will be offering the same workshops every week for six weeks so people can choose the day and time that best suits them.
These hands-on workshops focus on important new Learn features and cover the following topics:
- What’s new in Learn 3.0? Click here to find out more!
- Assessing students in Learn
- Configuring the new Learn Gradebook
