All Staff Graduation Memo

Kia ora koutou,

The following information is for those involved in the Ōtautahi Christchurch Graduation ceremonies in December 2019.

Graduation dates
Graduation ceremonies will be held on 18 and 20 December 2019 in the Christchurch Town Hall’s Douglas Lilburn Auditorium as follows:

Wednesday 18 December 2019

  • 10am College of Education, Health and Human Development| Te Rāngai Ako me te Hauora
  • 2pm College of Business and Law | Te Rāngai Umanga me te Ture

Friday 20 December 2019

  • 10am College of Engineering | Te Rāngai Pūkaha and College of Science | Te Rāngai Pūtaiao
  • 2pm College of Arts | Te Rāngai Toi Tangata

Printed programmes will be provided in the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium.

All UC staff are invited to be part of the stage party. If you wish to take part please contact Karen Reynolds (phone ext. 95512 or email karen.reynolds@canterbury.ac.nz) by 4.30pm on Friday 6 December.

Full academic dress will be worn
Hire of academic dress can be arranged through departmental offices. Hired regalia may be collected on the day before Graduation from Graduate Women Canterbury (GWC) on Dovedale Campus, at the corner of Dovedale & Solway Avenues (formerly the Music Building). The GWC holds very limited stocks of Waikato PhD regalia so prompt ordering is advised.

Arrangements for the ceremonies at 10am on Wednesday 18 and Friday 20 December
All members of the stage party are requested to assemble in Market Square at The Arts Centre at 9am.

Arrangements for the ceremonies at 2pm on Wednesday 18 and Friday 20 December
All members of the stage party are requested to assemble in Market Square at The Arts Centre at 1pm.

In the event of wet weather, please assemble in the first floor Choir Assembly area at the west end of the Town Hall where there is room to robe prior to being marshalled into processional order.

Important Graduation update – city street processions cancelled

UC has decided to cancel the city street processions for the upcoming April Graduation following advice from the police. The Graduation ceremonies will continue as planned. Please see the details below.

While there is no information to suggest a specific risk to our graduands and attendees, UC takes the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff seriously. The events of 15 March have had a deep impact on our community and UC will continue to work with police as appropriate for future Graduation ceremonies.

On the day

Graduands
Congregate in the Limes Room by 9.00am (morning ceremonies) and 1.00pm (afternoon ceremony).  

Staff party
Arrive by 9.20am (morning ceremonies) and 1.20pm (afternoon ceremony) at the Kilmore Room (mezzanine above the foyer).

VIP guests
Arrive by 9.30am (morning ceremonies) and 1.30pm (afternoon ceremony) at the Kilmore Room (mezzanine above the foyer).

Graduand guests/ticket holders
The auditorium doors will open at 9am (morning ceremonies) and 1pm (afternoon ceremony) and graduands guests/ticket holders need to be seated by 9.20am and 1.20pm. Doors will stay open until 9.40am and 1.40pm. No one will be let in in whilst the stage party and graduands are processing in and on to the stage or during the National Anthem.
