Free Workshops on Positive Men’s Mental Health

‘One For The Blokes’ are practical workshops running in Christchurch and Wellington on the subject of positive men’s mental health.

The aim is to ‘discuss how we get bogged down and what happens in our body and brain when this occurs’.

The next 4 workshops will be held at :

29th October 1-3pm at Worksafe, 351 Lincoln Road.

29th October 5.30 – 7.30pm at Triex, 49 Carlyle St, Sydenham

30th October 8.30am -10.30am at Kiwi Family Trust, 420 St Asaph St.

30th October 12 noon to 2pm, at Kiwi Family Trust, 420 St Asaph St.

Nutrition for Health

Do you want to learn five simple strategies to lose weight without really having to think too hard?  How about learning about the role of carbohydrate in your diet, particularly around exercise.

The Good News…Carbohydrate is Good!  Fat is Good!  Protein is Good!  It’s how much and when we choose to eat them that can be our downfall.  (That kinda means you can have your cake and eat it too…)

The RecCentre is delighted to be hosting Dr Nick Kimber on campus on Wednesday October 21st at 1pm.  Dr Nick will be chatting to us for one hour about the role carbohydrate plays in our nutrition, and giving us five simple strategies to put into our daily lives to achieve our weight loss and health goals.

Dr Nick is a respected nutritionist, lecturer, presenter and author in the New Zealand Health & Fitness Industry.   He presented a nutrition seminar for us mid-year, to thirty odd keen and eager listeners.  We received great feedback around his session, so we are hosting him again.

This session is open to anyone, at the subsidized cost of $10.  If you’d like to register, please contact us at the UC RecCentre.  We can take credit/debit card payment over the phone, or just pop over the river on a healthy lunchtime walk and visit us.

Staff Yoga and Meditation Courses

Staff Yoga

We are currently taking registrations for our next Staff Yoga course. These courses are dedicated to UC staff only, with a maximum of 20 people to allow for more personalised teaching and alignment adjustments in a nice, private space. The courses run in an eight week block from Tuesday 15 September to Tuesday 3 November and will be led by John Squire. Please note that there are two times to choose from: 5.15pm (only 1 spot left!) or 6.30pm.

Meditation

Registrations also open for our Meditation course. This course aims to teach you simple techniques to breath, move and meditate to help to lower stress levels and contribute to your overall health and wellbeing. The course runs in a six week block from Sunday 20 September to Sunday 25 October at 6:15pm (opt1) and is lead by the lovely Sabine.

Both Staff Yoga and Meditation are open to all UC staff members, no membership required. To register, either pop into the Rec Centre and sign up with one of our Receptionists. Otherwise you can give us a call on ext 8434 and we can register you over the phone. Payment is taken at the time of booking, so please have your card details handy.

Registrations are now open for the next round of Staff Yoga.
