Planned power outage – Saturday 2 February

A power outage is planned for Saturday 2 February, from 9.30am – 4.30pm to commission the control system of UC’s back-up power generator. The testing process will involve disrupting the power to affected buildings a number of unspecified times during the outage period.

Buildings will be closed to staff and students during the outage. If you are in one of these buildings during the outage you will need to use an emergency exit to leave.

Arrangements have been made to areas of buildings where facilities cannot be shut down for a long period of time. If you have any concerns about animal welfare or controlled temperature areas that may not have been considered please email fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Power will be shut down to the following buildings during this period.

  • Puaka-James Hight Library
  • Forestry
  • Forestry Workshop
  • Biology 1 and 2
  • Central lecture theatres
  • Rehua

  • Music (Ilam)

A second power outage may take place on Sunday 3 February if further commissioning is required. The same buildings will be affected.

Power shutdown to Psychology-Sociology building

On Saturday 15 December, power off to the Psychology-Sociology building (AR12) will be unavailable from 8.00am until 4.30pm.

Our Electrical Supervisor has advised users of the building and there should be no effect to connected buildings – Geography (AR06) and Psychology (AR08).

Temporary power has been organised to cover the animal areas and Café 101 freezers.

Planned power outage 4-11 July, West and Len Lye buildings

A power outage affecting the West and Len Lye buildings on Ilam campus has been planned to allow for the main switchboard that services both buildings to be upgraded.

Power outage period
8am Wednesday 4 July to 5pm Wednesday 11 July

Staff and students are advised that there will be NO ACCESS to the West or Len Lye buildings as they will be cleared and locked by Security for the period of the outage. If you need access please contact Security who will arrange an escort.

Information for building occupants
It is recommended that building occupants turn off their computers and printers before leaving work on Tuesday 3 July.    

We recognise that the impact of this outage is significant and would like to thank staff for their cooperation in ensuring we can undertake this work in a safe manner. We apologise in advance for the disruption.

Power outage – Foundry – Monday 19 March 2018

As a consequence of needing to connect the Foundry building power supply to  a new substation, this building will be without power for most of the day.

Outage Period –    Monday 19th March, from   8am – 4.30pm
The building affected with a total power and data outage is:

  • The Foundry – including Bentley’s

Staff are advised that for the affected buildings with a power outage there will be NO ACCESS as the buildings will be locked down for the period of the outage.

It is recommended that building occupants turn off their computers and area printers last thing before leaving work on the afternoon before the outage.
