The power of Yet

Have you come back with a little (or big) desire to make changes to bring about more wellbeing in your life? Perhaps we can help with that.

First up, i’d like to introduce you to the power of a little word  – yet. Put it at the end of a sentence, and it changes everything.

“I can’t touch my toes…yet”
“I don’t journal…yet”
“I haven’t found an exercise I like…yet”
“I can’t play guitar…yet”
“I don’t speak Italian…yet”

Finding your best wellbeing formula will require a bit of trial and error.   You might find journalling or a self-care routine is enough to put you in your happy place, but you might also find it doesn’t.  Check out these 15 tips to boost your wellbeing  and you might just get some inspiration.

Part of that formula should include some exercise.  Find something joyful, that every time you move you look forward to it, and are perhaps a little sad when it’s over!   This could be outdoors, indoors, at the beach or in the garden.

If you think structured exercise may help (perhaps you love routine, or recognise that your spontaneous nature could do with a little routine to balance you out), then we’d love to see you at the RecCentre.    More than just your standard gym, we offer a big range of activities under one roof, so you can get a taste of what the fitness industry has to offer at a super low price.   Just maybe we ‘ve got something that will excite you!

Right now, we have a 3-month membership special, which runs until 19 January, to help you get started.  If you’re not sure, pop over for a look through, then start with a 2-week trial – it’s free for UC Staff.

Have a happy and healthy 2020!

Taste at the buffet….pre-Spring Gym Membership Sale coming soon!

Are you ready to take the plunge and take control of your wellbeing?  Physical activity is one piece of the jigsaw, and the team at Rec & Sport are here to help! By increasing your activity levels, even just a fraction, you will experience both physical health and mental health gains.

The list is long, and I’m sure you’re familiar with it….lower blood pressure, better sleep, better weight management, lower stress levels, lower anxiety, alleviate depression and better pain management and more. All that can add up to better happy, or a serious case of increased twinkle in the eye.

We all know this deep down, yet we still manage to stay in our comfort zone, which for many of us, is firmly out of the gym! But our gym isn’t like the others…it has a cool retro vibe (who doesn’t love green vinyl floors and what about all that gorgeous wood….), modern equipment, and really nice people inside who want you to have a good time. Okay, that does sound like a lot of other gyms, but our difference is that we offer a buffet of experiences for your health and wellbeing, not just cardio, weights and classes, so you’ll be sure to find something you enjoy to fuel your happy.

As a staff member, you enjoy a 40% discount on our full community rate year round, and for a limited time, we’ll be offering a super sharp deal to get you on your health journey. Not sure?  Why not get yourself a free 2 week trial?

What’s the promo?  Buy 6months, get an additional 3 months on us!  As a staff member, that’s $219 for 9 months, which is just $24ish per month! On top of that, we’ll throw in a free SteerMe programme to get you started (valued at $35), and a full body analysis (LINK TO PAGE), an accurate and non-intrusive measure of your health starting point. For all the T’s&C’s, head to our specials page.

Are you ready to increase your twinkle?

Welcome to Anna Morgan Massage Therapist

Hello,
My name is Anna Morgan and last year I completed my Bachelor of Health Studies specialising in Neuromuscular Therapy. Within this I achieved Diplomas in Clinical and Sports and Therapeutic Massage, and am also a Registered Therapist with Massage New Zealand.

My particular passion within massage therapy involves assisting with chronic pain, and associated conditions including headaches/migraines. Another passion includes treating sport related conditions, a reason why I entered into massage therapy as a career.

Universities Step Challenge – 10,000 Step Challenge

Just like the Aotearoa Bike Challenge at the start of this year in February, we are inviting you to join in on the Universities step challenge. The challenge has been set by the team at CQ University Australia and they have invited campuses all around Australia and New Zealand to join in.  It is open to all staff, students, and anyone who is associated with UC, with official registrations of the challenge starting on 1 August (SO SAVE THE DATE!)

The challenge is simple, you need to complete 10,000 steps a day from 19 August to 29 September. As daunting as this may sound, it is not impossible. Once you take into account walking to and from office, up and down stairs, to and from meetings, and around the campus, the steps starts to rack up without you even knowing.

So who are we battling against in the challenge of the steps? Well there are a total of 12 universities across Australasia in the Universities Step Challenge.

The Australian universities are:

  • Australian Catholic University
  • Bond University
  • Southern Cross University
  • The University of Newcastle
  • The University of Western Australia
  • The University of the Sunshine Coast
  • The University of Queensland
  • Western Sydney University

The champions universities in New Zealand are:

  • The University of Canterbury
  • The University of Waikato
  • Victoria University of Wellington

Being the only campus from the South Island we need to show the others the true grit of Canterbury walking. We already won the Super Rugby so now’s not the time to slow down. Let’s keep this championship mentality going forward one step at a time as each step is in the right direction for you overall health and wellness. Jump onto our website to get more information or talk to your faculty coordinator to join the team in the challenge. If you don’t know who they are then please get in contact with me via email.

Go on, take on the challenge. EVERY STEP COUNTS!
