Free careers seminar for parents of teens

Guiding teenagers through the various career and study options available to them in the modern world can be a challenge, but UC’s Careers team can help.

Its free Parents as Career Educators seminars are on in August, where UC Career Consultants will talk with parents and caregivers of secondary school aged students (Years 9-13) about how to support their rangatahi in making informed decisions about their futures. 

The seminars will cover:

  • The world of work: looking forward
  • How to make informed career decisions now and in the future
  • How parents can assist
  • Career development resources 

This seminar will be held in the Engineering Core on UC’s Ōtautahi Christchurch campus at 7pm on Thursday 9 August and repeated on 16 and 23 August – so choose the one date that suits you best. 

UC staff and their friends are welcome to attend. Register online via the events website.

2018 VC General staff awards close Friday 27 July

Applications for the VC Awards close this Friday, so if you are attending or presenting at a conference, undertaking specialised training, or even taking part in a staff exchange, then get in quick.

The VC Awards are a chance to be recognised for your interest and upcoming participation in professional development that is exceptional and will benefit you, your team, your department and UC.

Register now for the Coaching Conversations Programme

Wednesday 25 July, 9.00am – 4.30pm with a follow up on Wednesday 29 August 9.00 – 11.00am

Coaching is a constructive way to inspire and motivate, boost
performance, assist staff to deal with issues and challenges, and
support people to meet their performance and team goals.

The Coaching Conversations Programme covers:

  • Enhancing your communication/interaction skills
  • Giving quality feedback and acknowledging people
  • Working with people to identify solutions to the issues they face
  • Coaching people who are performing well, how to keep them on track, how to motivate them and how to stretch them, and
    coaching where people need to lift their performance
  • Practical tools for a range of coaching conversations – long-term coaching, coaching ‘in the moment’, one-off opportunities.

Financial Planning for Under 35s – FREE

Want to start being smart with your money?

Come along to our financial planning seminar and learn how to get your finances sorted.

The Getting Started seminar is designed for those in the under 35 age group. It will cover information about what are the most important things to do for people starting out on their financial planning journey, including:

  • Cash flow
  • Kiwisaver
  • Debt management
