Keiran Horne joins the UC Council

I am pleased to advise that Minister Chris Hipkins has appointed Keiran Horne to the University Council | Te Kaunihera o Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha for a four year term from 20 May 2019 to 31 April 2023.

Keiran is a chartered accountant, specialising in business rescue and insolvency, who comes to Council with a wealth of financial and governance experience.

Ms Keiran Horne has been appointed to the University Council.

During her career she has held positions on the boards of Solid Energy NZ, Coalcorp Services Limited and Crown Asset Management Limited. Currently she is Commissioner on the New Zealand Lotteries Commission, Director of Breastscreen Otago Southland Limited and Screen South Limited, and a member of the Hamilton City and Timaru District Councils.

Her educational interests include involvement in Entre Limited and Conductive Education Canterbury.

I look forward to welcoming Keiran to her first Council meeting on 29 May.

VC Report November 2018

In the latest Vice-Chancellor report:

  • Applications to enrol for 2019 show significant
    increase across all five colleges
  • Applications to enrol by full-fee International students were up 26% compared to the budget of 17% growth
  • A blessing ceremony will be held for the rebuilt Rehua building next month.
  • We are budgeting on a small operating surplus from business as
    usual in 2019, the first time since 2010.

  • Applications to halls of residence are up 7% on this time last year
  • Reviews undertaken to ensure all bachelor degrees include curriculum content supporting the UC graduate attributes will be complete by the end of 2018
  • The College of Engineering (CETF) redevelopment project has been settled with the receiver/liquidator of Hawkins Construction
  • The Kia Tōpū business case to support research teaching in the sustainable production, efficient processing and secure distribution of healthy foods, was raised to the UC Council
