Applications are now open for the 2019 Explore Beijing programme.

This five-week programme, organised in collaboration with Peking University, provides an opportunity for 10 students to explore Beijing while studying at one of China’s most prestigious universities.

2018 ‘UC to Peking’ students.

In 2019, Peking University ranked as 31st in the THE World University Rankings and 30th in the QS World University Rankings.

The programme allows our students to develop important transferable skills by working on a project for an Aotearoa New Zealand organisation.

The students will benefit by living near Peking University in the Zhong Guan Cun area of Beijing (‘China’s Silicon Valley’) and this, combined with the project, as well as language, history and culture classes will enable them to gain a unique insight into another culture, which is supplemented by a series of day trips in, around and beyond Beijing.

These trips include visiting the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and other attractions. A three-night stopover in Guangzhou is also provided. The programme provides a series of experiences that would not normally be possible, framed by an academic programme designed to maximise learning and growth.

‘Explore Beijing’ is funded by the Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia (PMSA), enabling UC to offer the programme at a heavily subsidised fee of $500(NZD), which includes flights, accommodation, meals, activities and day trips in and around Beijing, airport transfers, travel insurance and the Chinese visa fee.

The programme will run from Friday 15 November to Sunday 22 December 2019. If you’re aware of any students who would benefit from and enjoy this experience – let them know!

UC renews UCIC partnership with Navitas

We’re pleased to announce that we have renewed our agreement with global education services provider Navitas Limited, for the conduct of pathway programmes at UC International College (UCIC) in Ōtautahi Christchurch, until 10 December 2023.

Established in 2013, UCIC offers a range of exclusive university transfer programmes into UC undergrad programmes in commerce, engineering, science and product design, as well as foundation and study abroad programs.

“UC is pleased to continue to partner with the UCIC pathway programme, which was the first of its kind in New Zealand, designed to assist international students to better adapt to the challenges of living and studying in a new country. It’s most fitting that this agreement will take us into the 150th anniversary year of the founding of the University in 1873,” says Vice-Chancellor | Tumu Whakarae Dr Rod Carr.

Navitas Group Chief Executive Officer, David Buckingham said: “We are delighted to be extending our partnership with the University of Canterbury which has enabled many international students to study at one of New Zealand’s premier universities and look forward to continuing to support the University’s International Growth Strategy”.
