With Uni-Cycleway work on the eastern side of Ilam Road now well under way, there will be occasional disruption to normal traffic flows in the area.
On Wednesday 5 July (tomorrow) from 7am until 12pm, Science Road will be closed while contractors repour the kerb and channel along Ilam Road. Please enter and exit the Science Road car park via Creyke and Engineering roads during this period.
As always, please take extra care around the works whether driving, biking, walking or using other modes of transport. Your ongoing patience is greatly appreciated.
The work along Ilam Road is expected to be completed in mid-July.
Work on the Dovedale Ave section of the Uni-Cycle Route has commenced. The existing footpath will be replaced with a 3.5m shared path which will impact the on-street parking during construction. The work is scheduled to take 8 weeks, and once this section is completed, the majority of on-street parking will remain.
Works on Ilam Fields have been delayed due to the poor weather but the final section is to be asphalted this week with some line marking and remedial landscaping work to follow.
The entrance to University Drive off Ilam Road is being prepared for a new crossing which will allow cyclists and pedestrians to travel more directly from Ilam Fields onto University Drive. Work on the western side of Ilam Road road will be completed by the end of May. Work on the eastern side will then begin to create the separated facility. All works on Ilam Road are expected to be complete at the end of June.
Work on the western side of Clyde Road is nearing completion with asphalt to be laid this week. This will provide the much needed tie in for pedestrians and cyclists to the new facility on University Drive. Work will then commence on the intersection of Clyde Road and Hinau Street.
Modifications to the intersections along the neighbourhood greenway being built between Clyde Road and Riccarton Bush are underway and will continue until the end of June.
The CCC is looking forward to opening the whole section of this route in early July and thanks everyone for their continued patience.
The CCC will utilise the mid-semester break to complete the Ilam Road/University Drive intersection of the Uni-cycle way. To facilitate this, University Drive will again operate one way only – west to east – between Ilam Road and the entrance road to Matariki.
This will take effect from 7.00am on Tuesday 18 April and remain in place until 6.00pm Friday 28 April, meaning that all vehicles using the Matariki/Okeover, ICT, Law and Clyde Road car parks will need to exit via Clyde Road during this period.
University Drive will be entirely closed between 6.00am Saturday 22 April and 7.00pm Sunday 23 April to enable relocation of three flagpoles and installation of a new pedestrian crossing.
Due to the wet weather this week, Christchurch City Council (CCC) could not seal the middle section of the Uni-Cycle path on Ilam Fields as planned – see previous update published 31 March.
CCC is currently looking into carrying out the sealing work over the weekend.
In the meantime please take care when crossing Ilam Fields.
Christchurch City Council is continuing construction work on the Uni-Cycle path on Ilam Fields.
Construction on the first section of the path, from Waimairi Road, has been completed and sealed. The middle section of the path is expected to be sealed by Wednesday (5 April) – weather dependent. In the meantime, work has started on the last section of the path between the tennis courts and Ilam Road.
Those travelling across Ilam fields should use the following routes.
- Travelling between Ilam and Dovedale
Use the route on the south side of the work site (see blue markings on the map below) – this joins up with the first section of the path that has been sealed from Waimairi Road.
- Travelling to University Hall
Use the route on the north side of the work site (see orange markings on the map below) – this joins up with the tennis courts.
Please take care when travelling through the area.
