Steve Wakefield retires as University of Canterbury Pro-Chancellor

Kia ora koutou,

I would like to inform you that Steve Wakefield is stepping down from his role after four years as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury Council.

Steve was appointed to UC Council in 2017 and has been a fine Pro-Chancellor, supporting me in my role as Chancellor and bringing vast expertise and experience in governance to the Council table. His professional background and close knowledge of Christchurch’s rebuild and rejuvenation has been invaluable.

An accountant by profession, Steve has a big heart for the community and has focused on adding value through strong governance. His strong commitment and contribution to the Council has had a meaningful impact over the past four years.

In 2017, Steve Wakefield was appointed to the Council by the Minister of Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment. He was elected Pro-Chancellor of the Council and has been on the following Committees at the University:

  • Executive Committee
  • Finance, Planning and Resource Committee
  • Audit and Risk
  • Honours and Appointments Committee
  • Vice-Chancellor Appointment Committee

On behalf of UC, I’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude for Steve’s commitment and contribution to the Council.

Ngā mihi,

Sue McCormack
Tumu Kaunihera | Chancellor
