On 31st March, the Postgraduate Research Office (PGRO) hosted an inaugural Doctoral orientation day for new doctoral students and a group of research master’s students. The UC/Lincoln University Joint Postgraduate School Food Transitions 2050 cohort also attended the day.
With a focus on the doctoral journey, sessions commenced with a panel of supervisors and current doctoral students. This Q and A session addressed ‘What I wish I’d been told early in my studies’ – tips and advice.
Professor Megan McAuliffe, the Dean of Postgraduate Research led the students through the key doctoral milestones. Ee-Li Hong, from the UCSA and Jonie Chang from Student Care facilitated a Well-being workshop and other UC support services also contributed essential information.
Most importantly, the event provided an opportunity for the postgraduate students to connect, engage and establish networks. The PGRO also launched the new Doctoral Development Programme Doctoral Development Programme | University of Canterbury
The next orientation day is scheduled for 14 July.
