1. It’s a 15-point campus-based course held in Semester 1, 2023. Students from any field can apply, as long as it fits into your degree structure.
2. It’s taught by a cross-disciplinary team of lecturers – and they’re great! Their expertise covers corporate social responsibility, communication, te reo Māori for business, community engagement, social sustainability and more.
3. During the course, you’ll develop skills required in any workplace – effective communication, problem-solving, team work, project planning and more.
4. You’ll also hear from guest speakers from the real world! They’re from national and local businesses, and they have great insights on the current working landscape.
4. The project you work on in the course will make a difference in your community.
5. You’ll end the course with your own Career Development Portfolio to start planning your future!

What’s it like to be a UniLife Kaitaki Ākonga?

You will be part of the UniLife team, planning and delivering UC’s awesome group mentoring programme for new students who don’t live on campus. Help our new students  find their feet at UC, connect them with each, watch them make friends, and have fun showing them what UC has to offer!

This is a paid role on campus, very compatible with your studies, and comes with tons of personal and professional development through the Ākonga Leadership Incubator.

Who can apply?

We are looking for both undergrad and postgrad students from all faculties for our UniLife Kaitaki Ākonga roles. To be eligible for the role, you need to have at least one year of full-time studies at UC under your belt by February 2023 and will have to be enrolled as a full-time student next year.

How can I apply?

Simply read through the position description (lots of good stuff in there to help you with your application!) and fill in the application form 🙂

In the form, you will be asked to upload a CV and a letter of motivation (appr. 500 words); here are some tips for your letter of motivation:

  • think about your personal attributes which would make you a great Kaitaki Ākonga
  • talk about what excites you about UniLife and being a Kaitaki Ākonga
  • tell us about your experience in leadership roles
  • share how you would go about supporting your students
The application deadline is Friday, 9th September, and we will be holding interviews in late September.
