ACE – Understanding your online engagement

Welcome new and returning students! Want to get the most out of  your online resources this year? Analytics for Course Engagement (or ACE for short) is the tool for you! ACE gives you a quick way to understand how you’re engaging online with your courses over time, and allows you to view the class average, helping you to know if you’re making the most of your online resources.

All undergraduate students can access ACE Dashboard through the LEARN home page by clicking on ‘View your dashboard’ in the ACE Engagement Analytics block.

ACE measures your engagement every time when you engage with different activities in LEARN, such as participating in a forum, downloading lecture notes, completing a quiz, watching Echo360 recordings. ACE is not linked to your grades or performance, nor does it track your attendance in tutorials and lectures. Your ACE Dashboard updates every three days to show your latest engagement level.

On the ACE Dashboard, the dark green line in the graph shows your engagement over time. The larger green band is centred on the average engagement in the course; the wider the band, the greater the range of engagement by other students within your course. It is normal if you cannot view any data at the beginning of a semester, as it will take a few days for the system to collect the data and display the graph.

UC also uses ACE as an early alert system to provide better support to students and connect them to wider university services. If your engagement drops in one or more of your courses, you may be contacted by the ACE team. There is nothing to worry about, this is just one of the ways UC is trying to proactively connect with students. For more info, watch the short video above.
