Covid-19: UC’s response to the 23 March government announcement

Covid 19

Kia ora,

Today the government announced a change to the Covid-19 Protection Framework. More information on the changes can be found on the Unite against Covid-19 website.

In response, the University Council will review the University’s policy and mandate-related procedures with any changes being communicated to students and staff by the end of next week.

In the meantime, things at UC remain the same…

Face masks
Students, staff and visitors must wear a surgical face mask indoors in public areas, and during teaching and learning – unless you have an exemption. Wearing a properly fitted three layered mask (e.g. the blue medical masks) is the single most important safety measure during Phase 3.

While not mandatory it is strongly recommended you wear a mask while moving around outdoors.

Red status / UC Vaccination Policy
You can only enter University campuses and take part in face-to-face University activities if you have a My Vaccine Pass.

Stay home if sick and self-report
You can access all your lectures and course materials online through AKO | LEARN.

If you’re waiting for the results of a Covid-19 test or you are a positive case, you will need to self-isolate immediately. Please let us know so we can support you.

Many of you will receive this while home isolating because of Covid cases. At UC we value manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and tiakitanga. This has been an incredibly tough time, please continue to take care of yourselves and your mates.

Covid-19: do you need to get tested to leave self-isolation?

Did you know that if you test positive for Covid-19, you don’t need to be tested to leave self-isolation once you’ve completed your seven full days? If you’re still feeling sick after that, stay home until you feel better, and for 24 hours after your symptoms have gone.

If you’re a Household Contact, then you can leave self-isolation after a negative test on your last day of isolation, AND as long as you have no new or worsening symptoms.

Support available for Students in isolation

We all know isolation can be hard, especially if you’re feeling unwell and don’t have everything you need to stay at home. UC wants to ensure we provide the best support for our students in isolation. For us to get you the support you need, it’s important you let us know that you are either COVID positive or a household contact. You can do that easily by completing this form: https://ucsafety.assurasoftware.net/Default.aspx

The form only takes about five minutes to complete and is an opportunity for you to let us know what support you require to complete your isolation. Whether its study-related, financial, tech support or simply needing some help to get groceries, a friendly staff member at UC will follow-up to get you the support you need.

The added bonus?

UC is currently delivering welfare packs to COVID positive students which contains some essentials to help you recover. Cup of soup, lozenges, tissues and more can be delivered to your door once you’ve completed the Assura form.

There are also 5 x $20 UCSA food vouchers up for grabs each week as spot prizes for students who complete the form! Just a little something to welcome you back to campus when you’re feeling well again!

Teaching and learning

While you’re isolating, you can access all your lectures and course materials online through AKO | LEARN. Here you can find your course calendar, details about assessments, connect with your classmates and read important updates from your course lecturers. Click here to find out more, or contact your course coordinator if you have any questions.
