5 things to do during the weekend in Christchurch

  1. Look at Christchurch’s two main markets. On Saturday have a wander on down to the Farmers’ Market located in the beautiful Dean’s Bush (a short walk from Riccarton Mall). There you can sample many delicious foods including: fudge, cake, fruit and veggies, and ethnic cuisine. Perfect for a quick lunch in the sun with friends! I highly recommend the Japanese Pancakes, they’re very good!
  2. Then on Sunday head over the Riccarton Rotary Sunday Market situated at Riccarton Racecourse. You can search through all the stalls looking for oddities and collectables, and you’ll always find a bargain. Don’t forget you can barter the price down!
  3. If you’re in need of some new threads but don’t really have the cash check out the local Opshops. You may score yourself a vintage find, or a label piece that’s hardly been worn! A few of my personal favourite bargain houses include: Savemart in Hornby or Papanui, and the $2 Toffs Warehouse in Ferrymead. It’s so much easier to afford a shopping spree when everything is $2!
  4. Have yourself a lovely day by spending a few hours at The Tannery in Woolston. The olden-day look of the hallways, combined with the quirky and unique stores, makes for a shopping destination unlike anywhere in Christchurch. Make sure you look into recycle boutique for some pre-loved label clothing and finish the trip at She Chocolate with a delicious drink.
  5. Go into the city centre. Do it, I dare you! New Regent St has been rebuilt and is now filled with bright coloured buildings which hold cafes, clothes shops and gift stores. Now you can also catch the tram which runs down this street and into town. However before you leave New Regent Street make sure to pop into the Clockwork Emporium and Café – Christchurch’s main steampunk shop!
