The University of Vienna Winter School for Cultural Historical Studies is a programme to invite students to learn more about Austria and its history. This year’s focus is the “Discovery of Modernity – Vienna around 1900”. Especially Vienna was a metropole in the late 19th and beginning of 20th century. The city was a melting pot of many nationalities because of the Austrian Empire. Many new technologies, art forms and innovations came from Vienna, respectively from Austria, as well as in literature and psychology (e.g. Sigmund Freud). It was a time of many changes and new perspectives but also holding on to old values that frequently led to conflicts. Vienna around 1900 is a place with many interesting fields to discover and study. This programme gives you the opportunity to dive deep into Vienna around 1900.
