Te Pātaka – UC’s new student services hub is coming in 2022

Te Pātaka – UC’s new student services hub is coming in 2022

We’re excited to announce that Te Pātaka, a new centrally located student services hub, is opening in late January 2022.

When you return to campus, you’ll find it on Levels 2 and 3 (the mezzanine floor) in Puaka James Hight (Central Library). Te Pātaka will be your ‘one-stop shop’ for bringing together academic and pastoral services important to supporting and guiding you as you journey through your studies.

Te Pātaka is the place where you can quickly and easily access all the support you need in one spot without having to visit several locations across campus. This will ensure you get the right help at the right time. This could be anything from guidance on what classes to take, to advice on how to access health care. The library help desk will continue to be available and ready to provide support with all your library needs as well.

For those of you who are used to studying in that mezzanine space, no need to worry, there are still plenty of spaces available in Puaka James Hight. The group study space on Level 4 will be upgraded and redesigned to accommodate more study spaces and new furnishings.

Te Waka Pākākano, in conjunction with mana whenua have been developing the cultural narrative associated not only with Puaka, but with the form and function of Te Pātaka. They’ve also been working closely with local Ngāi Tahu artist Fayne Robinson on design elements in the space that bring the cultural narrative to life.

Got a question or need some help? Visit Te Pātaka

When it’s up and running, Te Pātaka will be the first place to visit if need help with something. Whether you have enrolment queries, require IT support, or need to know how to apply for special consideration, the friendly team will be able to provide support.

The following services and support will be available in Te Pātaka from late January:

  • Help desk/reception area
  • Kaitoko (Student Advisors for first-year and new-to-UC students)
  • Te Waka Pākākano Advisors
  • Enrolment and Admissions
  • Financial services and Scholarships
  • International support
  • IT Help Desk
  • LEARN assistance
  • Accommodation help
  • Library

Over time you’ll find more services located in Te Pātaka, including representatives from other areas like Te Ratonga Whaikaha | Disability Service, Te Rōpū Rapuara | UC Careers and Tiaki Paenga | UC Security.

Pokapū Pūkenga Ako | Academic Skills Centre (also located on the mezzanine floor of Puaka-James Hight) is already close by, and you may have spotted the heads up that Atawhai Ākonga | Student Care is moving into the Undercroft in Puaka-James Hight next week.
