Nominate Now for Tohu Kahurangi | UC Blues Awards – Deadline: Sept. 6th!

The University of Canterbury Blues awards have now been renamed Tohu Kahurangi. This change reflects a connection to the cultural narrative of kahurangi, symbolising the precious pounamu – which also doubles as the kupu for ‘blue’.

Receiving an award at the Tohu Kahurangi | Blues Awards is the ultimate recognition for students who’ve excelled in Sports, Community Engagement, and Arts & Culture.

The awards honour outstanding achievements in Sport, Community Engagement, and Arts & Culture. Nominees must have demonstrated excellence between September 7th, 2022, and September 6th, 2023. Individual awards will be given out for each discipline. Winners will then be eligible for the following major awards:

  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Outstanding contribution to University Sport
  • Team of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • Official of the Year
  • Outstanding achievement in the Arts
  • Outstanding contribution to University Arts
  • Outstanding achievement in Community Engagement
  • Waewae Kai Pakiaka: Outstanding contribution to the Māori community
  • Outstanding contribution to Equity and Diversity
  • Outstanding contribution to Sustainability

Nominations for the Blues Awards close 10am, Wednesday 6th September. The Blues Awards will be held at Haere-roa on Saturday the 7th of October. For more information click here.

UCSA Community Fair is coming

Live in the community and want to come for a nosey? Brand new to campus and haven’t met the UCSA before? Missed Haere-roa over summer? You’re invited to our place!
 
Haere-roa will be looking its best on Saturday 11 February just for you. We’re putting on a Community Fair and would love to see you there.
 
Please note that the wet weather date for this event is Sunday 12 February.

🐶 animals to pat,
🥗 food trucks for snacks,
🦋 face painting,
🏰 inflatables for the kids (and the big kids, too!),
🎶 epic entertainment, and
🍺 our very own Foundry bar will be open for a bevvy.

Applications are open for the UCSA‘s Pasifika Student Advisor role. If you’re keen to help represent Pasifika student voices and make a difference on campus, we would like to hear from you!

Applications are open to all UC Pasifika students enrolled for 2023.

This new position will work alongside the UCSA’s Student Exec Team this year. It’s currently not an elected role.

Benefits and time commitments

This is a 10-hour-per-week time commitment, and the successful candidate will be paid an honorarium of $5879.20 (gross per annum). Other benefits include an office inside Haere-roa, tickets to UCSA-run events in 2023, the chance to boost your CV and meet new people.
