Facilities Management advises all strategic contacts and building users that a total Power Outage affecting all listed buildings is scheduled to take place on Saturday 31 January 2026.
Facilities Management Contractor, Connetics, will be completing the University of Canterbury (UC) Annual 11KV generator test. This essential annual testing and maintenance needs to be completed to ensure that UC’s electrical infrastructure is resilient in the event of wider network outages.
This 2026 11kv power outage is planned for five (5) hours between 7 am and 12 pm on Saturday 31 January.
The Annual Generator Test Outage will affect all of the following buildings:

- FA03 Fine Arts block 3
- GS52 Fire Main pump house
- AS02 Library Warehouse

Please ensure that this information is shared with staff and students using the affected areas.
What do you need to do?
FM recommend that people in the listed buildings:
- Turn off IT equipment in preparation for this outage by close of business Friday 24 January.
- Ensure any equipment UPS is operating correctly.
- Plan to shut down and reset any specialist equipment.
- Find an alternative working space if you are based in one of the listed buildings and are required to work on site on Saturday 31 January.
Note: If laboratories or laboratory equipment will be affected by this outage then the Laboratory Technicians responsible for those spaces will need to reset any equipment, equipment alarms or associated services post outage.
