Door Upgrade Haere-Roa

There will be a door outage in the Haere-Roa building between Monday 9 September and Thursday 26 September, while Facilities Management contractors upgrade the existing double doors at the eastern end of the Haere-Roa building (off University Drive) with automatic sliding doors. This will improve building accessibility.

The works will occur in two phases:

Phase 1

Start Date: 9/09/2024

Finish Date: 12/09/2024

Phase 2

Start Date: 23/09/2024

Finish Date: 26/09/2024

While the work is being completed technicians and tradespersons will be working from 7.30am to 5pm weekdays and building users will not be able to use the doors to the eastern end of the building for entry / exit of the building.

Use one of the alternate entry and exit points shown on the attached plan, and follow usual evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency.

After 5pm please enter the building through the main entrance.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Thank you for your consideration as we undertake these upgrade works.

Drone and Survey Roof Assessments

Facilities Management have engaged WT Consultants, a building survey consultancy company, to undertake roof condition assessments within the Ilam campus from 4 September to 20 September.

The assessments will include a drone survey (flyover) and physical survey (walkover) by a surveyor on the following roofs:

Arts North Lecture Theatre (AR04)

Alice Candy (AR11)

University Bookshop (SS31)

Puaka-James Hight (AS01)

Jack Erskine (SC21)

Psychology (AR12)

ICT (AS11)

The purpose of the assessments will be to develop a roof replacement programme based on the criticality of the roof conditions. If you regularly visit or work in these buildings, please be aware of the roof survey works happening.

If you have any questions, please contact FMassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Thank you for your patience as we undertake these assessments.

Planned power outage – Engineering

A planned power outage on Saturday 7 September will affect the listed Engineering buildings from 7.30am until 5pm.

The purpose of this scheduled power outage is to allow essential repairs to UC’s 11KV power network. 11kv transformers are generally used for power distribution in residential areas.

Affected buildings include:

  • EN18 Civil-Mechanical
  • EN35 John Britten – Engineering Faculty
  • EN02 Mechanical Engineering
  • EN38 Fire lab Scrubber civil and natural resources
  • EN03 CNRE – Civil and Natural Resources Engineering

The Facilities Management (FM) team has liaised with key affected staff about the power outage, with FM electricians and external contractors on site throughout the day to attend to any significant infrastructure issues.

What do you need to do?

In preparation, FM recommends people in the buildings listed above should:

  • Turn off IT equipment by close of business on Friday, 6 September.
  • Ensure any equipment UPS (uninterrupted power supply) is operating correctly.
  • Plan to shut down and reset any specialist equipment, as required, once power is restored.

Please share this information with your team and colleagues and direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undertake these necessary works.
