Roadworks Update 6 – Intersection Opening, Maidstone Road One-way Traffic

Dormer Construction are expecting to reopen the Ilam/Creyke/ Maidstone Roads intersection and re-instate two-way traffic on Creyke Road by Thursday 10 July.

Wastewater Upgrade works will then progress along Maidstone Road between Ilam Road and Waimairi Road with a one-way west traffic system in place in this works area until mid-2026.

Key Traffic impacts

  • One-way traffic on Maidstone Road – travelling west direction only. This one-way traffic diversion will be in place until mid-2026.
  • There will be no entry to Maidstone Road from Waimairi Road. Signposted detours will be in place for affected traffic travelling east.
  • A 30km/h speed limit will be in place. This is for worker safety during the works.
  • Traffic management currently in place will be removed: Ilam Road will reopen at the intersection of Creyke/Ilam/Maidstone roads, and on Creyke Road two-way traffic will be reinstated.

Other key information

  • Detours will be signposted for eastbound traffic.
  • Water services and power will be maintained.
  • Any changes to bus routes will be signposted. For information on bus routes, visit www.metroinfo.co.nz.
  • On-street parking will be temporarily removed in Maidstone between Ilam Road and Waimairi Road.
  • UC have parking available on the Dovedale site for staff and students – usual parking charges apply.

Dormer Construction appreciate your continued patience throughout the works period and will be working hard to reduce the impact as much as possible.

Planned Heating Outage – Tupuānuku Student Accommodation 3 July

There will be a total heating outage affecting the Tupuānuku Student Accommodation building between 8am and 5pm on Thursday 3 July.

Facilities Management Contractors will be completing the connection of the additional ground source heat pump to the existing mechanical pipework in the Tupuānuku Energy Centre, and there will be no heating in the Tupuānuku Student Building during this work.

What do you need to do?

Due to the time of year Residents and Staff are likely to find that the Tupuānuku student building is considerable colder than usual due to this heating outage.

  • Please take note that the works will be happening and that the heating will be off all day.
  • Dress warmly and to the weather.
  • Consider using other areas on Campus, such as the Library, the Undercroft, or a café, where heating will be operating.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank staff and students for their support as Contractors complete these connections.

Building Floor Plan Verification Inspections 1-4 July

The Facilities Management Senior Building Surveyor will be completing Building Floor Plan Verification Inspections on the Fine Arts Buildings (FA01-FA03) and the Forestry Laboratory Block (FO01) between Tuesday 1 July and Friday 4 July.

The purpose of the building floor plan verification is to complete a visual inspection of all rooms in a building to record any differences to the floor plans that the University currently have on file. To do this the Building Surveyor will be accessing all spaces within an area, so please allow access – he will be very quiet!

Please direct any enquiries to FMassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Thank you for your support during the building plan verification inspection programme.
