Science Road and Engineering Road Tree Works 6 – 10 January 2025

Facilities Management Grounds staff will be undertaking general maintenance tree works on Science Road and Engineering Road between Monday 6 January and Friday 10 January.

This preventative safety and tree health work will include pruning, removal of dying branches, canopy reduction, and the removal of a dying Fiver Finger located in the Science Road carpark. These are standard practises for ensuring the good health of the University tree stock.

Traffic Management will be in place with closures for Science Road and the Engineering Road footpath for approximately two hours each during the works.

Facilities Management have adopted a two for one replacement policy to compensate for the loss of a tree. In line with this policy a  Psuedopanax will be planted in the Science carpark, and two Plagianthus will be planted on the Okeover Stream bank Opposite SEL

Please adhere to all traffic management and signage and do not enter any fenced work areas. There will be some noise from chainsaw and chipper machinery being used for the works.

Traffic Management – Fire Hydrant Repairs Dovedale Campus and Homestead Lane Tuesday 17 December.

Facilities Management Fire Compliance Contractor, Argus, will be undertaking repairs to Fire Hydrants on the Dovedale Campus (x2) and on Homestead Lane (x1) between 8am and 5pm on Tuesday 17 December.

These works impact on the following areas:

  • The Ring Road from the intersection with Oak Drive to the entry of Sonoda – a temporary road closure will be in place in this location.
  • The Carpark between Wairakei and Waimairi.
  • A footpath closure on Homestead Lane by the intersection to the back entrance of the Staff Club.

Traffic Management will be in place in both locations and managed by the UC Security Team.

Please follow all traffic management signage and instruction.

Temporary Road Closure – Tree Removal Works 11 November

Forestry Road will be temporarily closed between 8am and 1pm on Monday 11 November while Facilities Management contractors complete the removal of the damaged Liquidambar trees located on Forestry Road by 51 Creyke Road.

The initial limb and branch removal was initiated as emergency health and safety work on 25 October after significant winds damaged the trees, bringing branches down onto Forestry Road.

During the works period Forestry Road will be closed with a traffic diversion through Arts Road or Engineering Road.Please be aware of noisy machinery being used, do not enter the fenced off area and follow all traffic management signage.

Facilities Management have adopted a two for one replacement policy to compensate for the loss of a tree. Decisions on replacement planting will be part of the 2025 works planning.
