There will be a complete water outage affecting the Eastern end of Homestead Lane for five (5) hours between 9am and 2 pm on Tuesday 15 April.

This water outage is required to allow Facilities Management Contractors (Southbase), working on the Tupuārangi student accommodation building, to complete the install and connection of the new water main to the build.

This outage will affect (RE35-RE56) Ilam Apartments, Rochester and Rutherford accommodations, and Ilam Homestead (Staff Club).

Please remain aware of the planned outage and take care if moving around the works.

If you are located in Rochester, Rutherford, Ilam Homestead or Ilam Apartments, please prepare for a five-hour water outage by ensuring you have drinking water available, including in water bottles or jugs. Shower before or after the outage.

Do not turn taps on in the building during the outage. If you do, please remember to turn off immediately to avoid flooding.

Bottle Lake Forest Burn Off Advisory

Facilities Management advise that smoky conditions around the campus result from a controlled burn-off at Bottle Lake Forest (10km northeast of the city) that is having a larger than expected impact on the city. This is an ongoing burn-off that commenced on 26 March and is scheduled to be completed around 16 April.

The material being burned can cause irritation for some, so please be mindful and considerate of your colleagues and fellow students. From an H&S perspective, we recommend:

If your respiratory system is compromised, or weakened, we recommend covering up and wearing a mask if you must be outdoors and talk to your lecturers or Taurima if you have any concerns.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz
