Roadway Painting ‘No Parking Zone’ – South Side Mechanical Engineering Wing 12 November.

Facilities Management Painters will be water blasting the roadway outside the five (5) exits on the Mechanical Engineering Wing, (south side) between 6am Tuesday 12 November and 4pm Wednesday 13 November.

This will be followed by painting of the cross-hatch no parking traffic symbols.  Cone barriers will be put in place Monday 11 November in preparation for the works which will be completed one entrance at a time. This means that not all entrances/exists will be closed at the same time.

While an entrance/exit outage is in place please follow signage to the nearest open entry or exit. Do not use the coned off entrance/exit.

This is a 24/7 no parking zone.

The road painting work is being undertaken in response to an identified health and safety issue. Vehicle users are parking in front of the doors, especially during the weekend, blocking access and exit to the building.

These are fire egress doors and must be kept clear at all times for use in any emergency situation, to allow people to quickly exit the building, and to allow emergency services access into the building.

This project is weather dependant and could be postponed.

Thank you for your consideration of FM works in progress and no parking zones in this area. Please direct all enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Elsie Locke Exterior Building Works – Access and Parking Outages Monday 11 November

Contractors will be removing the climbing plant (Virginia Creeper) from the exterior of the Elsie Locke Building between 8am Monday 11 November and 4.30pm Tuesday 12 November.

The following outages and restrictions will apply during the works period:

1.      The works area will be fenced off blocking a section of footpath. Please refer to the inset map for the alternative route.

2.      Three mobility carparks will be unavailable for the duration of the works to enable contractor parking, access, and set up of the woodchipper machinery. Security staff will be blocking off these parks from Sunday evening 10 November until the completion of works.

It is expected that a chainsaw and woodchipper will be in use during the works and contractors will use a knuckleboom for height works.

Do not enter the works area. If you are in the vicinity of the works area, please be aware of moving and noisy machinery and follow alternative routes to bypass the works.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Thank you for your consideration as we complete this work.

Notice of Annual UC Boiler Shut Down

Facilities Management would like to advise all staff and students that the Annual Boiler Shutdown will take effect from 0800am on Monday 11 November through until 4pm on Friday 14 February 2025.

This shut down is required to enable critical maintenance and compliance work over the summer months.

This means that there will be no boiler heating available for 3 months. This includes all buildings on both the Ilam and Dovedale Campuses, with one exception.

Ernest Rutherford (SC24) heating is not boiler fired and will remain operational.

Only UC purchased or approved appliances are allowed to be operated on Campus, and these must be tested and tagged. Please ensure that you do not bring personal heaters or fans in from home.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation as staff undertake this annual boiler survey and maintenance work.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz
