Building Condition Survey & Floor Plan Verification Schedule – Monday 4 August – Friday 8 August

The Facilities Management Building Surveyors will be completing Building Floor Plan Inspections and Building Condition Assessments between Monday 4 August and Friday 8 August in the following buildings:

  • SC22 – Putaiao Koiora – Building Condition Survey
  • AS01 – Puaka-James Hight – Floor Plan Verification Survey

building floor plan verification is when we complete a visual inspection of all rooms to verify, and record, any differences in the viewed floor plans against current plans that the University hold on file.

To complete the building condition assessment Surveyors will record the condition of the building and may take photos to support these records, and you may see the surveyors on the roof of the building. They will ensure that persons are not identifiable in any photographs taken.

To complete these assessments the Building Surveyors will be accessing all spaces within an area or building, so please allow access – they will be very quiet!

Please direct any enquiries to FMassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Thank you for your support during the building plan verification and condition assessment programme.

Power Outage – Te Ao Mārama Buildings and McMillan Brown Library Tomorrow 2 August

Facilities Management (FM) advise that there will be a total temporary total electrical outage affecting all Te Ao Mārama Buildings and the McMillan Brown Library between 7am and 8am this Saturday, 2 August, to enable the installation of switchboard monitoring devices into the main electrical switchboard for the Te Ao Mārama buildings (refer to inset or attached map).

In order for this work to be undertaken safely the switchboard will be electrically isolated. And a complete power outage will be in effect for approximately one (1) hour.

Affected Buildings:

  • FO04 – Te Ao Mārama, Block A
  • FO05 – Macmillan Brown Library
  • FO06- Te Ao Mārama, Block C

Please turn off all computer and other electrical prior to the power outage (Friday evening, 1 August 2025)

If you do need to be in these buildings during this time, please dress for the weather or find alternative locations on Campus to work or study.

Thank you for your understanding as we complete these required electrical tasks.

Temporary Re-opening of Bike Sheds – Central Lecture Theatres

Facilities Management are pleased to advise the temporary reopening of the Bike Shed, located at the rear of the Central Lecture Theatres building at the Beatrice Tinsley (SC07) end (refer to inset map).

We still have some work to do on the shelter; however, we have decided to open it up on an interim basis and then re-close the shelter for the roof install in October when the weather is more settled.

When we close for the completion of the repairs in October, we will be doing some work to reorganise the internal layout and make the space more user friendly.

If you have any enquiries, please contact fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Thank you for your patience as we complete these repair and re-roof works.
