UC Bio Blitz

It’s City Nature University Challenge time, so come join us on Friday 26 April for a campus “Bio Blitz”! 🐛🐝🦋🍄🌱🐦

Meet outside Ancestral Cafe on the North side of the Ernest Rutherford building to join University of Canterbury staff and students for a biodiversity ramble across the University campus to hunt out all things living.

You will be helping capture a snapshot of the wider Christchurch biota and contributing to the University’s research. You will most likely learn something interesting about the natural world alongside experts and experts in the making. This event is suitable for all ages and abilities.

UC is competing against Lincoln University in the first ever City Nature University Challenge, so a good turnout for this would be awesome, although anything you record on the UC campus during the full four days of the challenge will help us win.

Campus Foraging Tour 🍋

When: Thursday 2 May, 12pm – 1pm

Where: Meet at the fruit trees outside Cafe 1894

The walk will begin outside Cafe 1894 at 12pm and will end at Waiutuutu Community Garden just before 1pm. If you can, please stay for a cup of herbal tea in the garden afterwards.

New working bee time added

Autumn brings more time in the māra (garden)!

As well as the regular Friday afternoon working bee, we are now also offering an extra working bee at UC’s community garden on Tuesday mornings from 10am – 12pm. Working bees run all year, including in the holidays.

Drop in for your weekly fix of gardening, fresh air, tea and chats. All volunteers get to take home a share of the fresh harvest. 🥕
