Secure your bikes and vehicles

Cycling to campus is a fantastic way to save money, get fit and contribute to a better city. However, thieves can take advantage of bikes that are not properly secured.

Use one of UC’s bike parking facilities around campus.

Secure bike stands are electronically accessed with video surveillance. Simply swipe your Canterbury Card to get access. Please make sure that you still lock your bike with a D lock. 

Secure bike stands can be found at:

  • Engineering (Creyke Road)
  • Behind Central Lecture theatres
  • Meremere (Law)
  • Halls of residence – please check with your hall

If you drive to campus, you can make your car more secure by ensuring there are no valuables visible inside the car and by using a steering bar lock as a deterrent.

You should insure all valuable property, including bikes, cars and motorbikes.

Dovedale Crane Activity – Otakaro Access Outage Friday 7 March – Saturday 8 March

Facilities Management (FM) advise that there will be crane activity on the Dovedale Campus between 1pm Friday 7 March and 5pm Saturday 8 March for the removal of the scaffold roof truss off the Otakaro Building.

The crane will arrive on site via Solway Ave between 1-4pm on Friday 7 March and will set up within the crane compound ready for lifting on Saturday morning. All crane and truck movements will have spotters in place.

To complete these works safely the whole Otakaro building will be closed to staff, students, and visitors, from 7am to 5pm on Saturday 8th of March. Crane works will commence at 7am on Saturday morning following the building access closure.

Please be aware of truck and crane movement as the crane enters the site on Friday 7 March, and do not enter the works area, or the Otakaro building, between 7am and 5pm on Saturday 8 March. Follow all contractor signage.

Roof Works Waimairi Building 4 March – 28 March.

Roof Works Waimairi Building 4 March – 28 March.

Facilities Management Contractors will be undertaking roof repairs to the Waimairi Building (ED04) between 7am Tuesday 4 March and 5pm Friday 28 March. We expect this work to take approximately three (3) weeks.

Contractors will be working on the roof itself and also from a cherry picker that will be moving around the outside of the building. We can expect some noise from these works; however, we don’t anticipate this to be excessively loud.

Please remain alert for machinery movement around the Waimairi building and be aware of all construction work in progress. Follow all contractor signage and do not enter any construction areas or go behind fenced or coned off areas.
