Urgent Water Main Repair – Special Purposes Lab (EN22)

Facilities Management Contractors will be carrying out essential water main repairs beneath the deck of the Special Purposes Laboratory (EN22) on Tuesday 11 November, between 8:00am and 4:30pm.

What to Expect:

  • A section of the deck will be coned off and inaccessible during the works.
  • Please stay alert to contractor activity and follow all posted signage.
  • For your safety, do not enter the coned-off area or cross into the work zone.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while these repairs are completed.

Unplanned Lift Outage Lift #68 Chemical and Process Engineering Wing

Facilities Management advise that Lift #68 in the Chemical and Process Engineering Wing (EN06) is currently out of service due to an unplanned outage.

Contractors are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, however the lift may be out of service until next week.

What do you need to do?

  • If you need to use a lift to enter or leave the building use an alternative lift – Lifts #31 & #39 in Civil Mech (EN18); lift #69 in Rata (EN01) or lift #28 in Link remain operational (refer to inset map plan).
  • Use the stairs.
  • Please follow usual evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency.

🎆 Fireworks Safety Reminder – Don’t Burn Your Bridges at UC!

Fireworks can be fun, but reckless use poses serious risks to individuals, property, and our campus environment.

🚫 Never use or direct fireworks near buildings, trees, or people.
🔥 Fires in halls are extremely dangerous and can have serious consequences.

✅ General Use

  • Only use legal, consumer Fireworks, purchased from an authorised vendor.
  • Fireworks should be handled by a designated responsible adult.
  • Stay sober – never use fireworks under the influence.
  • Light one at a time, and back away quickly.
  • Never try to relight a “dud” – soak it in water after 20 minutes.
  • Never hold lit fireworks in your hand.

🌳 Location & Environment

  • Use fireworks outdoors only, away from buildings and flammable materials.
  • Make sure the area is clear of people, pets, and vehicles.
  • Keep pets indoors – fireworks can cause distress.

🧯 Protection & Equipment

  • Wear protective eyewear.
  • Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby.
  • Soak used fireworks in water before disposal.

Let’s work together to keep our UC community safe and respectful. If students witness unsafe behaviour, they should report it to their RA or UC Security.
