Elsie Locke Building Facade Concrete Repairs

Facilities Management contractors will be completing scheduled maintenance to the facade of the Elsie Locke building between Tuesday 19 November and Monday 23 December.

Preparation work includes washing of the building with a pressurised water hose. To complete the works contractors will be using a knuckleboom (or cherry picker) to access the higher parts of the building.

The perimeter of the building (excluding entrances) will be fenced off for the works duration, and this fenced off area will include the walking path. Machinery used to carry out works will be noisy at times and there will be temporary restricted access to the entrances of the buildings when works are taking place overhead. Only contractors or trades will be unable to use these entrances at those times.

Building entrances have been labelled A – E in the site drawing inserted.

Note the following instruction when one of the entrances has restricted access:

  • When access through Door A is restricted, doors B, C, D, E & F will be usable
  • When access through Door B is restricted, doors A, C, D, E & F will be usable
  • When access through Door C is restricted, doors A, B, D, E & F will be usable
  • When access through Door D is restricted, doors A, B, C, E & F will be usable
  • When access through Door E is restricted, doors A, B, C, D & F will be usable
  • When access through Door F is restricted, doors A, B, C, D & E will be usable

* Please note – restricted access will be limited to one door at a time.

While works are in progress take note of machinery movement and building washdown down in progress.  Please not enter the fenced off area and follow all redirection and signage.

Follow usual evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency. Work will stop to allow egress.

Thank you for your patience and consideration during this planned building maintenance.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz.

Urgent tree removal has temporarily closed Forestry Road

A damaged and compromised tree is currently being removed on the corner of Forestry and Creyke Roads. This is being completed today ahead of the predicted weather and potential storms over the weekend.

We anticipate this to take 2-3 hours.

UC Facilities Management Grounds staff are working with Dormer Construction Traffic Management teams to direct traffic through Arts Road onto University Drive.

This is an urgent removal after recent winds and a weak joint saw a limb fall from the tree yesterday, compromising the stability of the entire tree.

Thank you for your patience as this work is completed.
