Out of Hours remedial works, Ernest Rutherford 11 June until 1 December 2025

Facilities Management contractors will be working out of usual business hours in the Ernest Rutherford building between Wednesday 11 June and Monday 12 December.

The contractors expect to start work each Monday evening at 6pm, and work through until approximately 4am the following morning, completing fire compliance works on the braided hoses on the chilled beam system, the fire dampers, and other associated works.

This means that contractors will be onsite, and working overnight, each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the expected 25-week duration of the project.

Some pre-works test runs may be completed within Rooms 120 and 410 and a wall installed in the corridor in front of Rm 116.

Please do not enter any work areas if you are onsite during while contractors are working.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration as we complete this required compliance work.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

or to Security@canterbury.ac.nz if you have immediate concerns that should be addressed overnight.

Scheduled Building Condition Surveys 10 – 13 June: RH04 Music; AR12 Psychology and Sociology

Facilities Management Building Surveyors will be undertaking Building Surveys on multiple buildings between Tuesday the 10th of June and Friday the 13th of June 2025.

If you see staff in spaces across Campus during that time, it is likely that they will be the surveyors who will be following all working at heights and other safety protocol as required. If you are at all concerned, please contact UC Security tel:0800823637.

The purpose of the UC Building surveys is to complete a full visual assessment of the condition of the interior and exterior of the building. Surveyors will ensure that any photographs taken during the assessment are of the building and that persons are not identifiable in the photographs.

Your support in ensuring that spaces are tidy and open for inspection will be appreciated.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz.

Thank you for your consideration as we undertake these required building surveys.

Garage Re-Cladding   Ilam (Waiutuutu) Community Gardens – Notification of Asbestos Removal Works 9 June 2025

This notification is to advise that, as part of the refurbishment and re-cladding works on the Garage located within the Ilam (Waiutuutu) Community Gardens, Class B Asbestos removal will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm on Monday 9 June.

Inspections and testing have revealed that the current external cement cladding contains asbestos and will therefore need to be removed by a specialist WorkSafe Licensed Asbestos Removal Contractor. This is low risk work and should only take one (1) day to complete.

Following the asbestos removal, the FM Building team will commence the recladding of the garage with non-asbestos cladding.

Access to the community garden will be restricted, with fencing in place, from today Friday 6 June until completion of the work. There will be no access to the seating areas near the garage during this time.

Please do not enter any restricted or fenced off work areas and find alternative seating and eating areas until works are completed.

Thank you for your consideration as these required removal works are undertaken.
