Bottle Lake Forest Burn Off Advisory

Facilities Management advise that smoky conditions around the campus result from a controlled burn-off at Bottle Lake Forest (10km northeast of the city) that is having a larger than expected impact on the city. This is an ongoing burn-off that commenced on 26 March and is scheduled to be completed around 16 April.

The material being burned can cause irritation for some, so please be mindful and considerate of your colleagues and fellow students. From an H&S perspective, we recommend:

If your respiratory system is compromised, or weakened, we recommend covering up and wearing a mask if you must be outdoors and talk to your lecturers or Taurima if you have any concerns.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Ernest Rutherford Ceiling Void Surveys 7 April -12 May.

Facilities Management (FM) contracted Surveyors will be undertaking a scoping exercise and compliance specific survey on a total of 44 non-teaching or lab spaces within Ernest Rutherford (SC24) for approximately six (6) weeks between 7 April and 12 May.

Surveyors will be working between 8am and 4.30pm daily to complete a full visual assessment of the condition of the ceiling voids and assess the ability to install braided pipe to the chilled beam system.

Photographs will be taken during the assessment to maintain a visual record of the condition of the roof void at that time and surveyors will ensure that persons are not identifiable in the photographs.

Please support Surveyors as they work through this programme of work by ensuring that spaces are tidy and open for inspection allowing access to the roof voids as required.

Please direct any enquiries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz

Thank you for your consideration as we undertake these required compliance specific building surveys.

Cabling for Swipe Card Installations Ernest Rutherford 7 – 11 April

Facilities Management Contractors will be working in the corridors on level 1 of the Ernest Rutherford building between 7am Monday 7 April until 4.30pm Friday 11 April to run cabling for the installation of swipe card access to room 122.

We are not expecting this work to cause any undue or prolonged disruption; however, the contractors will be working from ladders in the doorways. This should not block off access, but it may narrow the access down slightly while work is in progress.

We ask you to take care when you are passing through the area where the contractors are working and follow any contractor signage.

Please direct any queries to fmassist@canterbury.ac.nz.

Thank you for your patience as we complete these compliance works.
