Come get your stuff fixed!

Students and staff are invited to bring along their broken items to UC Sustainability’s pop-up ‘Repair Cafe’ and have them repaired for free by our team of volunteers. Let’s all work together to keep more stuff out of landfill!

What: Repair Cafe

When: Wednesday 31 July, 11am – 1pm

Where: Te Rua Makerspace, Level 2, Puaka-James Hight Library

Drop in with your items at any time during the event. Volunteers will be able to help with:

  • Darning, hand sewing and glueing
  • General clothing and textile repair
  • Jewellery repair
  • Shoe repair including glue, stitching, sole fixing, eyelet repair and replacement
  • Industrial sewing for more heavy-duty items, like canvas or bag repair
  • Leather stitching and leather hole punching
  • Eyeglasses repair
  • Iron on patching for clothing like denim and waterproof/puffa jackets.

Item not on the list? Bring it along and we’ll see what we can do! (no electronics sorry).

If you have repair skills and would like to be involved as a volunteer, please email chloe.sutton@canterbury.ac.nz.

This event is proudly part of Plastic Free July, supporting our community to reduce waste to landfill.

Make a beeswax food wrap for Plastic Free July!

Celebrate Plastic Free July with us by learning how to make your very own beeswax food wrap – for free!

Beeswax wraps are a great alternative to single-use plastic cling film. Handy for wrapping sandwiches, covering leftovers and keeping veggies fresh in the fridge, these reusable food wraps are quick, easy and fun to make.

Drop in to Te Rua Makerspace (Level 2, Puaka-James Hight) on Thursday 25 July between 11am – 1pm to make your wrap. Please allow around 30 minutes to make your wrap. All materials are provided, and this workshop is completely free.
