Recognising Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day! All students and staff are encouraged to wear pink and join the global movement that celebrates diversity, promotes positive relationships and takes a stand against bullying. 

Here in Aotearoa New Zealand the Pink Shirt Day campaign is run by the Mental Health Foundation. Celebrated annually, the campaign is all about creating schools, workplaces and communities where all people feel safe, valued and respected.   

How you can get involved at UC on Pink Shirt Day: 

  • Wear pink to show your support and raise awareness about bullying. 
  • Start conversations with your family, friends and colleagues about bullying and ways to create a more supportive and inclusive culture. 
  • Take action and be an upstander if you see or hear bullying happening, using your words or actions to help the person being bullied. 
  • Spread the word about Pink Shirt Day on your social media and personal networks, sharing stories about how bullying has affected you or someone you know, and tagging us @ucwellbeing on Instagram or emailing your photos to studentwellbeing@canterbury.ac.nz. 

Events include: 

  • May 13-17 Positivity Wall, Puaka-James Hight Central Library & The Living Room 
  • May 13-17 Wear Pink to the Rec Centre to go into the draw T&C’s apply 
  • May 14               T-shirt Making Workshop, Te Rua Makerspace, PJH 10am-12pm 
  • May 15               Connect Zone, The Living Room 12-2pm 
  • May 16               Toastie Thursday, The Living Room 12-2pm 
  • May 17               Photobooth & Giveaways, The Living Room 11-2pm

WHAT’S HAPPENING – PINK SHIRT DAY

Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora I Speak up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!

Join us to speak up, stand together and stop bullying this Pink Shirt Day on Friday, 17 May!

We’re asking the UC community to help us turn the campus pink by participating in a range of events beginning Monday 13 May to Friday 17 May.

What is Pink Shirt Day?

Pink Shirt Day is more than just wearing pink. It’s a commitment to upholding our values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and aroha to create a kinder, more inclusive Aotearoa where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, or cultural background.

Reset with 2hr Deep Restore with Heart and Mind Yoga

It was such a success in Term 1, we’ve brought it back!  Why not try a 2 hour Deep Restore yoga session to nourish your nervous system and reset you for the exam season?

Deep Restore with Heart and Mind Yoga 

We’ve collaborated with Jo Jarden of Heart and Mind Yoga to bring you a heavily discounted Deep Restore experience.    Utilising science-based relaxation techniques and deep stretches, enjoy a gentle guided practice to relax the nervous system and unwind. 

Absolutely no experience is required, just an open mind and willingness to experience guided relaxation for 2hours! 

How to book

Spaces are limited to just 40 people, so we would suggest making your booking as soon as you can!   Bookings are via the Rec&Sport app, and your place will be secured once you’ve made payment ($8) at the RecCentre.   

When is it?

Sunday 26th May, at 11.15am to check in and get your space set up.  Class starts at 11.30am.   For all the info, visit our Specialty Classes webpage.
