Volunteering Opportunities with Children’s University

Te Mātāpuna Mātātahi | Children’s University is looking for volunteers to help with our Campus Experience Days on 24 June, 26 June, and 4 September which will see over 750 tamariki come onto Campus and engage in a range of fun activities at UC. Volunteers will guide tamariki around campus and support them with a range of fun activities at UC.

Children’s University encourages 7 to 14 year olds to engage in exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences outside of the classroom. The aim of the programme is to support young people’s aspirations for higher education and encourage lifelong learning. This short video provides an overview of the programme – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjLsgnzbK0s&t

Volunteers play an important part in helping us deliver the programme and we have a range of roles available for students to support us.

If you can help, please register using this online form https://forms.office.com/r/FudjNRkKJ5  or email us directly on jack.swannell@canterbury.ac.nz.

Please note we may undertake a reference check to ensure suitability to work with children.

Protect yourself and others

Getting a flu jab is your best defence against the virus this winter.

Domestic UC students enrolled at the UC Health Centre will be able to get FREE flu vaccines from 3 April 2024. For international and domestic students who are not currently enrolled at the Health Centre, the UCSA and the UC Health Centre are offering 1000 FREE flu vaccinations.

How to get your vaccine

  • Phone reception and book an appointment at the UC Health Centre on 03 369 4444 (ext. 94444) or contact your registered medical provider to book with them instead.
  • Please don’t come to the Health Centre if you feel unwell and phone reception to let them know

If you have any questions regarding the vaccine, please contact UC Health Centre or your own medical practice. For further useful information, visit the Ministry of Health’s website.

Health and Safety on campus

UC is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all students. To make sure you feel safe on campus, here are a few things to remember:

Look up:

Whether you’re a pedestrian, cyclist or skateboarder, it is important to be aware of what’s happening around you. Look out for others when travelling through campus to make sure you are not putting others at risk.

No smoking or vaping on campus:

UC is a smokefree campus, meaning you cannot smoke cigarettes or vape on campus grounds, in or near any UC buildings or at any field stations. By respecting the smokefree policy we can all enjoy a healthier place to study, work, socialise and live.

Do you know where the Emergency Procedures are located around your lectures?

All departments have an Emergency Procedures flip chart outlining what to do in different types of emergencies. The flip charts are on display throughout the University and can be found in all lecture theatres. A PDF version of each page can be found on the UC website Emergency Procedures page.

Assura:

We need your help to keep our campus safe. If you see something unsafe or get injured while on campus, it is super easy to let us know. Assura is our easy to use health and safety reporting system. Reporting through Assura will increase our visibility of hazards, so we can correct any issues and make UC safer. Health and safety is all of our responsibility, and by working together we can protect our community. More information on reporting an incident or hazard can be found on the UC website Report an Incident page.
