City2Surf – be a part of the UC Team experience for FREE!

Last year was such a successful event incorporating the 150th Celebrations so we decided to have another go!

Runners of all levels at the start line for City to Surf 2021
City2Surf  – an iconic Christchurch event

We have designed a safe and achievable 6-week plan for beginners and joggers. This is going to be fun and safe to get you moving, get outside and provide the support you need to make that first step. The main goal is to finish the event, enjoy the experience and the atmosphere of the day and to use the 6-week programme to kick start something for your health, wellbeing, and life going forward.

BACK IN THE CITY –  Sunday, 17th March 2024

The 2024 C2S is back again on the “original course” from Latimer Square to New Brighton! Follow the Avon River and the Ōtākaro trail, winding our way to Rawhiti Domain for an awesome finish. A true city to surf event, a course with unique scenery, and something you won’t want to miss out on!

Choose from walkers, wheelers/aids, wannabe joggers or joggers for either the 12km (Latimer Square Start) or 6km (Porritt Park Start) course.

Don’t worry about what level you decide to embark on now, we’ll help you in the first week to figure out the best fit and you can change groups if it’s not quite right.

Once we reach our cap of 150 entries, you will need to register directly with City2Surf and pay the $40 entry fee – but you can still be part of our team training and hang with us at our event day tent.

If you’ve already registered for the City2Surf via their website (and paid your $40 entry directly), you can still join in on the day and run as part of the UC Team.

Electrical outages weekend of 20-21 January

Please be advised that there are two electrical outages planned for Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January 2024 on Ilam Campus.

For those in affected buildings, Facilities Management recommend that you:

  • Turn off IT equipment in preparation for these outages
  • Ensure any uninterrupted power supply (UPS) equipment is operating correctly
  • Plan to shut down and reset any specialist equipment

Outage 1 – Ernest Rutherford – West wing only – 20-21 January

Ernest Rutherford West wing will be without power for two days from 7am 20 January 2024 to 7pm 21 January 2024.

This will enable contractors to complete alterations to the main switchboard for the Ground Source Heat Pump Project (GSHP).

This outage will affect Ernest Rutherford West wing only.

Outage 2 – Multiple buildings – 20 January

Power will be shut down across multiple buildings from 7am-9.30am on 20 January 2024.

This will allow for essential annual testing and maintenance, to ensure that UC’s electrical infrastructure is resilient in the event of wider network outages.

The following buildings will be without power:

  • Alice Candy
  • Angus Tait
  • School of Psychology, Speech, and Hearing
  • Beatrice Tinsley
  • Biology Glasshouses
  • Central Lecture Theatres
  • Elsie Locke
  • Ernest Rutherford [east and west]

Facilities Management electricians and our external contractors will be onsite during this period to attend to any significant infrastructure issues. Equipment requiring any specialist shut down or reset due to this outage needs to be coordinated by appropriate Faculty or Service Department staff.
