Then sign up for our 20-Week Group Fitness Challenge at the UC RecCentre – you won’t regret it!

Not only are the aforementioned prizes up for grabs, but there’s monthly spot prizes as well as bonus extras (think free Spin classes and Body Composition Scans [BCS]) along the way simply by being involved! You’ll be doing a great service to your health and well-being too, by getting your body MOVING and having loads of fun while you’re at it!


But, what is the “Challenge”, you ask?

What:   Complete 50 Group Fitness classes before Sunday 1st October
When:  Challenge starts Monday 15th May – but you can join anytime!
Cost:    FREE!
How:    You’ll receive a ‘Class Diary’, with the aim to collect 50 stamps by the end of the Challenge!

What counts as one class (1 stamp)?

Note: To complete the entire 50 classes, you need to attend each style of class on our main Group Fitness Timetable at least once. The compulsory classes at the front of your book, which can be stamped off at any time.


What can I win, and how can I win it?

There are two main prize draws to be IN TO WIN:

  • 50 Class Completion Prize Draw:  2x $200 Mobil Fuel Gift Cards
  • Halfway Mark 25+ Class Prize Draw: 2x $50 Westfield Gift Cards 
    At the end of the first 10 weeks, all participants who have completed 25 or more classes at this point will be able to enter this prize draw.

We will be holding Mega Classes to celebrate the start and finish of the Challenge, where there will be $50 Westfield Gift Cards up for grabs by just coming along! The first 75 minute Mega Class will be on Wednesday 17th May at 5:20pm (Bookings required).


In addition, there will be a monthly prizes and giveaways for all participants to keep you motivated! In the Class Diary itself, there are bonus freebies as you hit the 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 stamp milestones too.

What is the PACE Programme?  

  • PACE stands for Professional and Community Development and offers a suite of multifaceted courses designed to grow your personal and professional skills and identity. 
  • All PACE courses include: 
  1. A bespoke internship with a community or industry organisation, for either 70 or 140 hours.  
  2. Compulsory lectures once a week that help you develop your professional skills and identity.  
  3. Credits towards your degree, (15 or 30) yes, you heard right these courses can count towards your degree!
  • All the PACE courses are open to everyone who applies This opportunity is open to ALL students of any degree!
     
  • We source and set up the internship for you. We support you throughout the process to ensure you get the most out of your experience alongside an amazing organisation that suits you. 
  • Entry requirements are based on the number of points you have achieved so far:  
  1. PACE295 – must have 90 points already 
  2. PACE395 – must have 140 points already 
  3. PACE495 – must be studying at the postgraduate level

SPSS Group (R80 Rugby, XLR8 Fitness, R80 Sports)  Joining the sales and marketing team in the area of graphic design, social media content creation / management and the creation of group marketing collateral generation. Looking at sports teamwear apparel design, graphic design skills needed. 

 

Communications
Disability Leadership Canterbury Waitaha for Everybody Trust  Assisting with networking meetings, provide support to workshops, collating learnings, assist with submissions. 
Primary Sport Canterbury  Interviewing and creating stories about the organisation to showcase on their website. 

 

Youth work/Community 
Epic Sports  Getting involved with programs and helping run them with the kids. 
Cholmondeley Childrens Centre  Youth roles working in the centre with the children. Based in Governors Bay. 
Recreate  Helping on programmes for young people with disabilities.
Bee Awesome  Helping with teaching, looking at environmental education, creating resources, incorporating Te Reo. 

 

History 
Underground/Overground Archaeology  Historical research and continuing the creation of a database on one of the sites. 
STAR newspaper  Supporting the digital content team to go through Christchurch star newspaper archives, sorting photos, and increasing visibility of collection to public. 
Cheviot Museum  Cataloguing and archiving, documenting, and researching objects. Need to be able to head out to the museum.

 

Computer Science/Website Development 
JASI Swim Team  Website development. Remote work 
Community Law  Investigate digital delivery options for the legal education services we provide to community groups. To see what options are available for delivering pre-recorded and live-streamed education material and help to identify which would best suit our needs and the needs of our clients. We would like them to review, price and compare the existing digital platforms to help us identify whether we are better to self-host or use an existing service. 
Rolleston Warriors Rugby League Club  Website Creation and linking to social media

Visualise your Thesis is Back!

 

What’s Visualise Your Thesis?

Visualise Your Thesis will be a competition that involves creating a 60 second video explaining your thesis. It is aimed at Postgraduates, with the potential to win $1000, $500 & $250 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively! The first prize winner’s entry will also go into the international Visualise Your Thesis competition.

How do I enter?

Register to compete at https://canterbury.libguides.com/visyourthesis and you will be sent a link to the Competition Pack with all the details. This page also contains information about workshops to support you in developing your presentation as well as the link for submitting your entry.

When’s the deadline?

Entries open on Monday 8 May 2023 and close on Sunday 18 June 2023. Prize-winners will be announced on Thursday 3 August 2023.
