Tree Removal Works- Dovedale 17 April

Facilities Management (FM) contractor (Elite) will be undertaking tree removal work on the Dovedale Campus between 8.30am and 4.30 pm on Thursday 17 April.

Under advice from the Grounds Supervisor a total of three (3) trees are to be removed including two (2) dying Robinia trees at the entrance to carpark 3, and a maple in the College of English Language courtyard that has a major split in its trunk.

Do not enter any fenced off areas during works and be aware of machinery noise from use of the chainsaw and chipper.

Facilities Management have adopted a two for one replacement policy to compensate for the loss of a tree. Decisions on replacement planting will be part of the 2025 works planning.

Observance of Passover

Members of our UC community will be observing the Jewish festival Passover (or Pesach in Hebrew) from sundown on Saturday 12 April, to nightfall on Sunday 20 April, (or in the Hebrew Calendar, Nissan 15-22). Pesach celebrates the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. You can find out more here. There are varying levels of observance of Pesach among the Jewish community; students in halls of residence or flatting might participate in a celebration of Seder (ritual meal), but not the traditional thorough spring-cleaning of the kitchen. Some will abstain from any leavened bread or products containing yeast for Pesach week, and others (usually for medical reasons) do not.

We wish all those participating a wonderful Pesach.
